Vice President, Oncology Clinical Services

We’re building something significant in central Pennsylvania — and we’re looking for the physician leader who wants to help shape it. Penn State Health is a $4B+ integrated academic health system serving communities across central Pennsylvania. Anchored by Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, the region’s only academic medical center and Level I trauma center, and Penn State Cancer Institute, we combine advanced clinical care, research, and education through our partnership with the Penn State College of Medicine.

With a growing network of community hospitals, outpatient sites, and a strong focus on quality, safety, and innovation, we are scaling access to high-acuity, high-quality care across the region.

Penn State Health is seeking a Vice President of Oncology Service Line (MD), reporting directly to the EVP and Chief Clinical Officer. This is a rare opportunity to define and execute the oncology strategy across a growing $4B+ academic health system — home to the region’s only NCI-designated cancer program.

The Opportunity
This role is designed for a strategic physician executive who will:
  • Set the strategic direction for oncology services, strengthening and expanding programs across the system
  • Optimize performance, quality, and value across the oncology continuum, including inpatient, outpatient, and ambulatory settings
  • Lead service line development and growth, aligning clinical, operational, and financial priorities
  • Drive integration across academic and community settings, ensuring consistency in care delivery and patient experience
  • Partner in advancing value-based care strategies through Penn State Health Care Partners
  • Influence physician recruitment, network expansion, and program development to meet future demand
You will operate strategically with enterprise-wide scope, collaborating across Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Penn State Cancer Institute, community hospitals, and Penn State College of Medicine to advance a unified oncology strategy.

What You Bring
  • MD or DO with board certification in oncology (medical or surgical) and active Pennsylvania licensure
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to translate vision into execution
  • 7+ years of clinical experience (10+ preferred), with ongoing clinical engagement
  • Proven experience in service line development and growth
  • Demonstrated physician leadership experience (medical director, executive committee, or equivalent)
  • Ability to lead in a dyad model and influence across academic faculty, community physicians, and executive leadership
Why Penn State Health, Why Now
We are in a pivotal phase of growth, expanding our geographic footprint, investing in new facilities, and advancing our academic and clinical integration. Oncology is a centerpiece of that strategy and this leader will help set the direction.

This role offers real authority, real resources, and real impact. You will help define how cancer care is delivered across the region for years to come.
If you are a physician leader who wants to operate at scale, drive strategy, and leave a lasting mark on oncology care, we should connect. Please contact Rachel at [email protected]
