Penn State Health is seeking an innovative and relationship-driven physician leader to serve as the next Vice President, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center.

This is more than a traditional CMO role.

Lancaster Medical Center sits at the center of one of Pennsylvania's most dynamic healthcare markets, serving a rapidly growing region of nearly 600,000 residents. As Penn State Health continues to expand its presence throughout Lancaster County, this leader will play a critical role in shaping physician engagement, advancing quality and patient safety, strengthening community partnerships, and guiding the organization's future growth.

The Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, will report directly to the Hospital President and work closely with hospital leadership, the Penn State Health Chief Medical Officer, service line leaders, operational executives, and physician leaders across the health system.

The Opportunity

The Vice President, Chief Medical Officer, serves as the senior physician leader for Lancaster Medical Center and acts as the primary liaison between the Medical Staff and Administration.

The successful candidate will help shape the future of healthcare delivery in Lancaster County while advancing Penn State Health's mission to provide high-quality, compassionate, and innovative care.

  • Medical staff leadership and engagement
  • Quality, patient safety, patient experience, and clinical excellence initiatives
  • Physician recruitment, onboarding, and retention
  • Medical staff governance and bylaws
  • Peer review and quality oversight
  • Strategic planning and service line growth
  • Physician alignment and relationship management
  • Clinical operations and performance improvement
  • Collaboration with the health system and regional leadership
  • Development of future physician leaders

Minimum Qualifications

  • M.D. or D.O. required
  • Ten (10) years of relevant experience required
  • Seven (7) years of experience in medical leadership roles, including previous medical directorships, medical executive committee participation, and/or other equivalent medical leadership roles required
  • Pennsylvania Medical Board License required
  • Board-certified in the area of clinical practice and clinically active required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrates emotional intelligence in both internal and external settings and engenders respect among peers and the care team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred, either completed or in progress prior to hire
