Penn State Health Department of Emergency Medicine - Vice Chair of Education
Primary Function: The Vice Chair (VC) of Education is responsible for overseeing the educational mission of the Department of Emergency Medicine. The VC of Education will oversee and provide alignment for the various educational initiatives in the department: undergraduate, graduate medical education as well as advanced practice provider education.
Reporting structure:
- Reports to: Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine
- Direct reports: Residency Program Director, Fellowship Directors including APP Fellowship, Medical Student Clerkship Director, 3+3 Program Director and Medical Student Elective/Selective Directors
- Key Collaborators: VC of Faculty Affairs, VC of Clinical Operations, VC of Health Advancement & Community Engagement, Equity and Inclusion, DIO and COM leadership, VC of Research
Effort Allocation: 0.10 FTE
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leadership Duties and Responsibilities
- Set educational strategy for the Department of Emergency Medicine in collaboration with the education team.
- Measure progress through defined goals; report out on those goals regularly to the Department leadership.
- Provides an annual summary of educational activities for the Department of Emergency Medicine to the Department Chair.
- Provide oversight of departmental compliance with regulatory standards for educational programs (e.g., LCME and ACGME).
- Assist with preparation of the educational components of the annual budget for the Department of Emergency Medicine.
- Develop a departmental Grand Rounds program and publicize it throughout the institution.
- Faculty performance in education.
- Provide departmental leadership with metrics measuring faculty participation in the educational mission.
- Oversight of feedback to the faculty who teach residents, fellows, APPs, and students.
- Participate in faculty recruitment.
- Attend the College of Medicine Vice Chair of Education meetings.
- Serve as a member of the Department of Emergency Medicine Chair's Council.
- Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.
Core Competencies of the Position:
- Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine
- Board Certification/Board eligible in Emergency Medicine
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in medical education leadership
- Track record of scholarship: publications in peer review journals, presentation at conferences
