SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Penn State Hershey Medical Center is seeking a Night Hospitalist Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join its Hospital Medicine team. This position is open to Acute Care Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants and is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. shifts. The APP will provide overnight coverage, managing acute and complex chronically ill adult patients. Responsibilities include performing patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, managing admissions and discharges, and responding to cross-cover calls and changes in patient condition. The provider will function as an integral part of the multidisciplinary care team and is expected to demonstrate excellent clinical judgment, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently overnight. Prior experience in hospital medicine is preferred. This position is eligible for a night shift differential in accordance with Penn State Health policy.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicable candidate will meet scenario A or B
  • Either (A) Master's Degree in a Critical Care or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program with a minimum of one year CRNP experience (which could include clinical rotations or relevant clinical experience in applicable specialty) required and three (3) critical care experience as a staff nurse required; OR (B) Master's Degree in a General Nurse Practitioner Program with a minimum of one year CRNP experience (which could include clinical rotations or relevant clinical experience in applicable specialty) and five (5) years critical care experience as a staff nurse required.
  • Currently licensed to practice as a CRNP by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required.
  • National certification as an advanced practice nurse required.
  • Must possess knowledge of appropriate critical care, to include advanced cardiac life support and basic cardiopulmonary life support certification.
  • Acute critical care certification focus is preferred.
