Neonatologist - Build Lancaster's Newest NICU
Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center

Lancaster, PA

The Opportunity

Penn State Health is launching a new Level II NICU at Penn State Health Lancaster Medical Center in October 2026, and we're looking for the neonatologist who will build it.

This isn't a role where you inherit someone else's program. You'll shape clinical protocols, help select your team, define the culture of care and establish a Level II NICU that will serve Lancaster County families for decades. For the right physician, this is a career-defining role.

You'll work alongside a collaborative division of three neonatologists and four advanced practice providers, with direct access to subspecialty backup from Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital's Level IV NICU in Hershey — one of the most respected academic children's hospitals in the region. You get the autonomy of a community-based program with the safety net and academic resources of a major health system behind you.

What You'll Do

  • Lead daily rounds and provide comprehensive management of NICU patients across respiratory, nutritional, hematologic and infectious conditions
  • Oversee all infants admitted to the newborn nursery
  • Respond to NICU and newborn nursery emergencies and attend high-risk deliveries
  • Actively develop and maintain clinical policies and procedures for a new program
  • Collaborate closely with families and a dedicated ancillary team on individualized care plans
  • Partner with Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital for subspecialty support and access to Level IV NICU

What Makes This Role Different

Most neonatologists spend their careers working within someone else's established system. This position offers something rare: the chance to be the architect of a new program at a growing community hospital that opened in 2022 and is already expanding its specialty services.

Lancaster County is one of the fastest-growing communities in Pennsylvania. The patient population is diverse, engaged and underserved by neonatal specialists. The need is real and the opportunity is yours to define.

Leadership development is available for those who want it, and this role carries natural influence over the clinical direction of the division.

Qualifications

  • MD, DO, or foreign equivalent
  • BC/BE in Neonatology
  • Ability to acquire a license to practice in the State of Pennsylvania BC/BE

Compensation and Benefits

Penn State Health offers a competitive compensation package including:

  • Competitive base salary
  • Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance
  • CME time and funding
  • Medical, dental and vision coverage with no waiting period
  • Generous paid time off, personal time and paid parental leave
  • Retirement plan, extended illness bank and life insurance
  • Tuition reimbursement and identity theft protection
  • Employee wellness programs and fitness partnerships

About Lancaster Medical Center

Lancaster Medical Center is a modern acute care hospital in East Hempfield Township, Lancaster County, that opened in October 2022. The hospital connects patients to the full depth of Penn State Health's academic and specialty resources, including clinical trials available through Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center.

Lancaster sits in one of Pennsylvania's most livable regions with strong schools, lower cost of living than the Philadelphia or Baltimore markets, easy access to both urban and rural amenities and a community that genuinely values its healthcare providers.
