Join Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, a nationally recognized academic medical center and Level I Trauma Center, as a Registered Nurse Manager, Patient Logistics. In this high-visibility leadership role, you will drive hospital throughput, patient flow, and transfer center operations—ensuring patients move safely, efficiently, and seamlessly across the continuum of care.
This position is ideal for an experienced RN leader with a background in bed management, patient placement, transfer center operations, or hospital throughput strategy who thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT
As Manager of Patient Logistics, you will lead both Bed Management and the Nursing Transfer Center, making real-time decisions that directly impact patient access, capacity management, length of stay (LOS), and clinical outcomes. Your leadership ensures the right patient is in the right bed at the right time—every time.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operational Leadership
Lead day-to-day patient flow operations across all admission sources, including ED, OR, direct admits, and transfers. Oversee bed placement, escalation processes, and capacity management in a complex academic medical center environment.
Transfer Center Leadership
Direct safe and efficient patient transfers from regional and national referral sources. Partner with physicians, nurses, and clinical teams to optimize transfer protocols and strengthen referral relationships.
Throughput Optimization
Continuously evaluate and improve workflows related to patient placement, discharge coordination, and throughput. Collaborate with physician leaders, nursing, and ancillary services to enhance access, safety, and patient experience.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
We’re seeking a dynamic RN leader with experience in:
- Patient flow, bed management, or transfer center operations
- Hospital throughput, capacity management, and patient placement strategy
- Acute care, critical care, or emergency department leadership
- Interdisciplinary collaboration across physicians, nursing, and operations
- Data-driven decision-making and process improvement
This leader brings strong operational instincts, thrives under pressure, and is passionate about improving access to care, patient safety, and hospital efficiency.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a Master's Degree in Nursing required.
- Five (5) years related work experience required.
- Registered Nurse currently licensed to practice by the Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required.
