SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Medical Lab Scientist II – Blood Bank is a crucial position responsible for providing support to the blood bank supervisor in overseeing the operations of the blood bank department within a healthcare facility. The incumbent will play a key role for ensuring the accurate and timely testing, processing, and distribution of blood products to meet the needs of patients and support medical staff. This is a lead position responsible for technical oversight for a team of medical laboratory scientists and technicians, ensuring compliance with quality standards, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
- Bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution.
- If certified as a Medical Lab Scientist or a Medical Technologist, an Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training may be substituted for a Bachelors.
- Must be Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist certified through ASCP, ASCPi, AMT or equivalent certification agency.
- Two years clinical laboratory experience in related discipline.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of blood bank testing procedures, methodologies, and best practices.
- Familiarity with relevant regulatory guidelines and quality control standards.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
