SUMMARY OF POSITION:
This is a Spanish Interpreter role
This position is for a qualified medical interpreter and will provide interpreter services for patients, families, staff, visitors, physicians, and others regarding consents, medical treatments, discharges, instructions, and other interpreting needs as well. Also responsible for the process of identifying, prioritizing, and completing allowed translation of documents from English/non-English language, non-English language/English. Other duties include assisting in problem-solving with patient and family communication needs and proactively identifying opportunities for improving services to our limited or non-English speaking patient and family population.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Knowledge of Medical Terminology required.
- Minimum of 40 hour training in medical interpretation.
- Complete at least four (4) continuing education credit hours per year or more to remain competent in identified non-English speaking language.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a healthcare setting as a medical interpreter with strong medical vocabulary.
- Minimum one (1) year in a role that demonstrates ability to read handwritten and typed documents in English and the target language, speak clear English and the target language, and write in English and the target language.
- Minimum one (1) year of experience translating, reading and writing documents in English to the target language within a medical setting, with a full command of the English language and knowledge of medical terminology.
- Successfully pass the Interpreter Skills Test through approved education provider of language interpreter services.
- Qualified Medical Interpreter Test Certification
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):
- Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in a Social Science field or Language highly preferred.
