Position Summary – Pediatric Critical Care APP Fellowship
The Penn State Health Hershey Medical Center Pediatric Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care is a post-graduate training program designed to prepare highly qualified nurse practitioners and physician assistants to become skilled, compassionate, and efficient pediatric critical care providers. This structured fellowship supports the transition from graduate training to independent clinical practice in a high-acuity, fast-paced pediatric intensive care environment.
Fellows will develop advanced clinical competencies through a comprehensive curriculum that integrates immersive clinical experience with structured didactic education. Training emphasizes critical thinking, procedural proficiency, evidence-based practice, and family-centered care across the spectrum of pediatric critical illness.
The fellowship fosters professional growth through a multidisciplinary, team-based approach, partnering fellows with experienced pediatric intensivists, APPs, nurses, respiratory therapists, and consulting subspecialists. Through collaboration and progressive responsibility, fellows will gain the confidence and expertise necessary to deliver high-quality care to critically ill children and their families.
This distinguished fellowship is designed to cultivate clinical excellence, promote compassionate care, and ensure a successful transition to practice within pediatric critical care.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
- Graduate of an approved Physician Assistant or Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program
- National board certification required for both NPs and PAs prior to the start of the fellowship program.
- Current BLS Certification
- Current PALS Certification
FELLOWSHIP REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to dedicate up to 50 hours a week to fellowship training. Hours may be divided between clinical rotation, reading, completing online training modules, didactic sessions, case conferences, journal clubs and clinical simulation.
- Trainees will be expected to work the schedule that is outlined by their clinical mentors.
- Schedules will include days, evenings, nights and weekends.
- A personal narrative describing your professional goals and interest in Pediatric Critical Care (Double spaced, 12 font, max 3 pages).
- A resume/CV, including a description of past critical care experience, including clinical rotations, if any.
- Three letters of recommendation, one from a current program director or clinical faculty. If greater than two years since graduation, one from a recent supervising physician or APP colleague.
