About Me
I am a fellowship-trained, board-certified colorectal surgeon specializing in minimally invasive surgery, including robotic and trans-anal microscopic procedures. I treat both cancerous and noncancerous conditions of the colon, rectum and anus, including early age-of-onset and inherited colorectal cancers and inflammatory bowel disease.
The most meaningful part of my work is helping patients improve their treatment outcomes and quality of life. I chose this field because I developed an early interest in how colon cancer forms and how best to treat it.
Previously, I spent three decades at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, helping to advance care and surgical techniques for colon, rectal and anal cancers. Earlier in my career, I served as the Roscoe Bennett Gray Cowper, MD, Distinguished Professor of Surgery and chief of gastrointestinal surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. In my free time, I enjoy classical music, jazz, long-distance running and fishing.
