NICU Pediatrician
Penn State Health is seeking a NICU Pediatrician to provide comprehensive pediatric care with a primary focus on serving the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Penn State Health Golisano Children's Hospital in Hershey. The Pediatrician collaborates with an interdisciplinary care team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based care to neonatal patients while ensuring accurate clinical documentation and effective communication across the continuum of care. Responsibilities include participating in an on-call rotation to provide continuous patient coverage, supporting quality improvement initiatives, and contributing to medical staff committees as appropriate. The role also emphasizes patient and family education, strong clinical judgment, and the development of positive relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members to support exceptional clinical outcomes.
Who we are:
- A division of 13 neonatologists, 6 fellows, and 20 Advanced Practice Providers.
- A full complement of ancillary staff including excellent administrative support, social workers, dieticians, NICU respiratory therapists, a care coordinator, a child life specialist, neuropsychologists, PT/OT/Speech Therapists, and other nursing support.
- We have a 56-bed 36,000 sq. ft. Level IV NICU with a hybrid bed structure (27 single rooms, 4 twin rooms, 1 triplet room, and 3 six-bedded open bay pods) that sits atop the Children’s Hospital offering spectacular views of Hershey.
- An active ECMO program, a busy NICU Neurodevelopmental follow-up clinic, and a Small Baby Unit.
- We use all modes of ventilation including high-frequency jet and oscillator, PSV/VG, invasive and non-invasive NAVA, bubble CPAP, and high-flow nasal cannula. We do whole body therapeutic hypothermia and have 24/7 pediatric surgery and pediatric cardiovascular coverage. We have an active transport team and provide therapeutic hypothermia during transport.
- Involvement in clinical and bench research: neonatal pulmonary disease, genetics of surfactant A protein, neonatal abstinence syndrome, neonatal hypoglycemia, bronchopulmonary dysplasia, sepsis, neonatal genetics, among many other projects.
- Easy access to Pediatric Clinical Research Office research nurses, coordinators, and IRB- and regulatory specialists, as well as biostatisticians.
- Penn State was one of the first centers to join the Vermont Oxford Network and was among the first ten programs to initiate VON’s multicenter clinical trials.
What we’re seeking:
- BC/BE in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
- MD, DO, or foreign equivalent.
- Ability to acquire a license to practice in the State of Pennsylvania.
