HERSHEY, PENNSYLVANIA (USA). Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and Penn State University College of Medicine invite applications for an academic Hematopathologist to join a growing, collegial, and highly collaborative pathology department at a leading quaternary care academic medical center. This non-tenure track position is available at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level and may be structured as a clinician-educator or clinician-scientist role based on the successful candidate’s interests and experience. Candidates must have an M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree; board certification or eligibility in Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology, Anatomic Pathology, or Clinical Pathology; and fellowship training with board certification or eligibility in Hematopathology. Ideal candidates will bring expertise in bone marrow, lymph node, spleen, and extranodal tissue pathology; peripheral blood smear review; flow cytometry; coagulation; molecular diagnostics; cytogenetics/FISH; and the integrated diagnosis of benign and malignant hematolymphoid disorders and will be expected to cover one or two additional subspecialities of anatomic pathology within the current subspecialized practice framework.
This is an outstanding opportunity for a hematopathologist who values diagnostic excellence, multidisciplinary collaboration, teaching, and academic growth. The successful candidate will provide diagnostic and consultative hematopathology services at Hershey Medical Center, including interpretation of bone marrow biopsies and aspirates, lymph node and extranodal tissue specimens, peripheral blood smears, flow cytometry studies, coagulation evaluations, hemoglobinopathy testing, and molecular and cytogenetic studies related to hematologic disease. The role offers meaningful engagement with hematology/oncology, pediatric oncology, multidisciplinary tumor boards, resident and fellow education, quality assurance, laboratory stewardship, and collaborative clinical or translational research. Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania is required. Penn State Health offers a competitive compensation plan, including a base salary, a generous incentive plan, and an excellent benefits package. The Department of Pathology provides an exceptional academic environment for faculty seeking to build a rewarding career in hematopathology. The successful candidate will join a strong department of 40 faculty members in Anatomic, Clinical, and Experimental Pathology and will contribute to a growing subspecialty practice serving the Hershey Medical Center, Cancer Institute, and Children’s Hospital. Faculty benefit from active collaboration across clinical services, access to robust educational programs, and opportunities to participate in undergraduate, graduate, residency, and fellowship education. The department offers a fully accredited residency program with 16 positions and four ACGME-accredited fellowship programs, including Hematopathology.
