SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The System Director of Specialty Applications will provide leadership and direction for the Applications Services team and is responsible for strategizing, planning, coordinating, and supervising all activities including service line alignment with Facilities, Marketing, Security & Clinical service lines. Scope of systems infant security, physical security, employee duress, secure texting, patient flow, nurse call integration, quality reporting, and complex architecture, and environment management.

The System Director of Applications Services,  as a member of the Information Systems Leadership team and reports to the Vice President, Chief Application Officer.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:

  • Oversees the growth and optimization of Penn State Health specialty systems including the facilities, security, secure texting, quality, and patient alerting systems and serves as a leader with the application strategies to include vendor management. 
  • Transformational leader by collaborating with executive, operational leaders, and teams to identify areas for improvement, implement innovative processes, and facilitate organizational change. 
  • Generates original ideas and suggests solutions. 
  • Directs the architecture, development, implementation and keep the lights on support and maintenance of application systems that enable Penn State Health’s objectives. 
  • Partners effectively and influences others (including external vendors) who are responsible for managing environments to audit and ensure their compliance to security standards, including collaborative planning for areas that are at risk or non-compliance. 
  • Research and stay current with technologies and solutions to identify and implement innovative solutions to meet clinical and business objectives while maintaining quality performance. 


MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum eleven (11) years' experience supporting healthcare applications utilized in hospitals, ambulatory clinics, and academic medical centers (examples: EMR, laboratory, pharmacy, security, radiology, dietary, nurse call, radiation oncology, and learning). 
  • Five (5) years of management experience required.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Proven experience leading successful EHR, Imaging, Advanced Clinicals implementation and optimizations for large Health Systems
  • IS Leadership position in Academic Medical Center
  • Certification Project Management Institute (PMI) (PMP)
  • Experience with Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL)
