In Phillip Stark’s lengthy career, he has learned a great deal about what works and what doesn’t. Now he’s using that knowledge to guide and empower his students.

“My early experiences impacted my approach to teaching,” says Phillip, a respiratory therapist at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and a medical educator for the Clinical Simulation Center. “I always make patient and provider safety the foundation of all learning opportunities.”

Phillip is dedicated to helping students develop the critical thinking skills, knowledge and confidence they need to succeed. Through hands-on experiences in the simulation lab, he ensures they’re prepared to “find their footing, assert themselves and do the right thing for their patients.”

“We use state-of-the-art equipment to duplicate any medical emergency we might face,” he says. “We also participate in research that brings ideas to the bedside so together we can apply best practices to provide the highest level of care.”

Phillip believes this type of intensive training, which emphasizes teamwork and interdisciplinary collaboration, thrives best in an academic health system where research, education and patient care intersect.

It’s stories like these that drive our purpose.
