Patty Shipton approaches each physician candidate like a puzzle, believing that every piece must fit perfectly for the full picture to come together.

“The best part of my job is getting to know the candidates and their stories,” says Patty, who recruits physicians for Pediatrics and OB/GYN systemwide. “Everybody's needs and wants are different, so it really is about making a connection with each candidate while doing what's in the best interest of the health system.”

Patty’s deep understanding of Penn State Health was formed not just by her years of service but also by her family’s experiences as patients – first her father and now her granddaughter. These experiences reinforced her belief in the health system’s mission and are the reason she is enthusiastic about her work.

“It’s so important to have the right people in the right roles, not just for my family but for the community as well,” she says. “I care a lot about Penn State Health. It’s been so good to me, and I want to give back in return.”
