Freeze the specimen, if it will not be shipped within 24 hours of collection. If red cells are present, centrifuge at 140 g for 10 minutes before freezing specimen. Transfer the supernatant fluid to a sterile plastic leak-proof container. Wrap with foil to protect from light.
