Provide patient with an ARUP Timed Stool Collection kit. (Refrigerate during collection.)

Patient Preparation

*The patient should be on a diet consisting of 50-150g of fat per day for 3 days prior to the study. NON-absorbable fat substitutes, such as olestra, should be avoided prior to collection. *Barium and charcoal interferes with the test procedure; a waiting period of 48 hours before stool collection analysis is recommended. A minimum of 4 grams of stool is required for testing. Freeze container(s) once in the lab.
