About Me
Katherine de Souza, MD, is an Assistant Professor in Obstetrics and Gynecology and a board-certified Gynecologic Surgeon. She specializes in comprehensive surgical care of patients with complex gynecologic conditions and chronic pelvic pain. After graduating from medical school at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, VA, Dr. de Souza completed her residency in Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She then moved to the Southwest US to complete a fellowship in Advanced Gynecologic Surgery with a focus on pelvic pain at Creighton University Arizona in Phoenix, AZ, before joining the faculty at Penn State.
Dr. de Souza uses minimally invasive surgical approaches including standard laparoscopy, robotic surgery and vaginal surgery. These methods allow her to provide complete care for conditions such as endometriosis, heavy menstrual bleeding, ovarian cysts, and fibroids through small incisions which allows patients to recover more quickly from major surgeries. In addition to gynecologic conditions, Dr. de Souza also treats musculoskeletal and nerve-related causes of chronic pain. She comprehensively evaluates patients to identify all conditions contributing to pelvic pain so that her patients receive the treatment that they need to relieve their pain and optimize their quality of life.
