SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Accountable for facilitating informatics processes, enhance coordination, training, support processes and provide overall direction for clinical informatics requiring the use of leadership and decision-making abilities. Serve as the liaison between Information Services (IS), physicians, the community and nursing regarding clinical IS initiatives. This role is a coordinator for informatics resources and clinical IS initiatives relating to clinical departments and electronic health record systems. The CITL will sometimes lead projects of varying size (e.g., departmental, enterprise).


ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS: 

  • Supervise the activities of nursing informaticians, clinical informaticians and analysts supporting PSH Electronic Health Record systems. 
  • Partner with Optimization and Interoperability leadership to determine future strategy, objectives and goals to serve the business needs of Penn State Health. 
  • Partner with operational areas to ensure the exceptional integrated delivery of services related to use of clinical systems. 
  • Demonstrates ability to use knowledge and experience to define new processes and procedures; work cooperatively with other departments; identify, escalate and facilitate problem resolution.
  • Leverages clinical information technology, process design, change management, and evidence to enable improvements in the patient care experience, quality, financial and regulatory goals, and improve the quality and efficacy of clinical care. 
  • Train, educate, coach users on system functionality and capability.  


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Master's Degree in Nursing Required

Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by Pennsylvania Board of Nurse Examiners required

5 years of related experience required


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Ability to present analytical detail to departmental and organization leadership in a manner that can be understood

Ability and desire to present Penn State Health accomplishments at vendor customer events (User group conferences)

Must remain current on healthcare policies, protocols and regulatory rules

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Clinical informatics experience focused on the implementation and support of clinical applications/databases in a hospital and/or ambulatory provider environment is strongly preferred

Certification in Informatics Preferred within 5 years (RN-BC in Informatics or CPHIMS)
