Penn State Health Hampden Medical Center will bring acute inpatient medical services to communities in Cumberland, Perry, and York counties. The facility, set to open in the Fall of 2021, will feature 108 private inpatient beds and an attached outpatient medical office building. Responsible to assist the department Supervisor in coordinating training, scheduling and providing direction to the Sterile Processing staff during scheduled shift. Assumes the leadership role and acts as a primary first resource for the department in the absence of the Supervisor.
The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
Performs all job functions of a Sterile Processing Tech, to include the cleaning, assembling, packaging and sterilizing of all instruments and equipment according to both governing and regulatory bodies (i.e. AAMI, IAHCSMM, CBSPD, AORN, FDA, Joint Commission, CMS, Manufacturer Instructions for Use) and the hospital (i.e. departmental, hospital, and infection control policies and procedures).
Maintains knowledge of GI Endoscope reprocessing, to include the ERCP process and hospital AER, in accordance with hospital policy and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFU).
Assumes the primary preceptor role for new hires.
Acts as a resource and liaison for OR and Sterile Processing Staff during shift.
Collaborates with Supervisor, OR Coordinators, and other Clinical leads to problem solve and resolve issues, and identify and recommendS instrument purchases and/or repairs to eliminate future conflicts.
Assists Supervisor in determining work priorities, ensuring that all tasks are accomplished efficiently by monitoring and directing the daily work activities of Sterile Processing personnel.
Assists in the monitoring of department protocols, and ensures the appropriate corrections are made.
Actively participates in the creation, implementation, and auditing of all department policies and procedures.
Assists Supervisor with the necessary data collection for productivity and equipment monitoring.
Capable of troubleshooting problems with processing equipment and demonstrates ability to properly care for all equipment and instrumentation in order to maintain quality and prolong usefulness of equipment.
Maintains case cart supply management in accordance with the department's implemented procedures to accommodate OR preference card and room efficiency.
Communicates with Supervisor and staff regarding any issues or information required to ensure the flow of productivity and to meet the needs of all customers, to include Surgical Services, Cardiology, Family Birth Center,Endoscopy, ED, on-site departments/offices, and all satellites.
Actively promotes outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.

High school diploma or GED Required
Satisfactory completion of a program of orientation and training related to sterilization, processing, decontamination and distribution of supplies.
High school education/equivalent required.
Three years of Sterile Processing experience required.
Certification as a Central Supply or Central Processing Technician by CBSPD or IAHCSMM required.
Prior leadership/management experience preferred.
Additional Certification as an Instrument Specialist is also preferred.
Certification Course in Sterile Processing Leadership (i.e. CHL) preferred.
