Penn State Health Outpatient Staff Pharmacists are responsible for assuring safe, rational, and cost effective drug therapy for patients within the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center by assuring the accuracy of drug dispensing, physician order evaluation, and the monitoring of drug therapy. Pharmacists are also responsible for communicating with all providers involved in the care of patients with respect to pharmacotherapy issues, participating in assuring adherence to Medical Center drug use policy, and providing pharmacotherapy education and information for physicians, nurses, residents, students, and patients.
The Cancer Institute Pharmacy provides prescriptions for the Cancer Institute, Emergency Department, Same-Day Surgery Unit, Medical Group Clinics, Discharged patients and the “Meds to Beds” (RX2GO) program. Cancer Institute pharmacists work with a team of social workers, care coordinators, and other health care professionals to help patients with medication counseling, assistance with medication costs, and other prescription issues.
The Pharmacy Department Vision is to provide optimal pharmacotherapy to patients across the continuum of care through collaboration with and the education of our patients and healthcare providers. This will be achieved by implementing a patient focused pharmacy practice model, utilizing innovative technological solutions, conducting ground-breaking research, and fostering a spirit of excellence. Penn State Health utilizes an integrated, electronic medical record and an interdisciplinary approach to care.
B.S. or Pharm.D. degree in pharmacy required.
Current Pennsylvania Licensure or eligibility required.
Must be an effective communicator and have excellent time management and conflict resolution skills.
Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently.
Able to lift 0-10 lbs. constantly; 11-35 lbs. occasionally.
Able to carry 0-10 lbs. frequently; 11-35 lbs. occasionally.
Able to push 0-10 lbs. constantly; 11-20 lbs. frequently; 21-35 lbs. occasionally.
