SUMMARY OF POSITION:
RNs in the Medical Intermediate Care Unit (MIMCU) are responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to a designated group of patients. This 20-bed multidisciplinary unit offers excellent nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1 or 2:1, so the RN can truly make an impact on patients and their families. Our team uses advanced technologies such as bladder pressure monitoring, arterial line monitoring, and end-tidal CO2 monitoring to treat a variety of conditions including multi-system organ failure, respiratory distress, sepsis, hematology and oncology, gastrointestinal dysfunction, renal failure, liver failure, substance withdrawal, acid-base and electrolyte imbalances, and endocrine emergencies. In addition, the nurses in the MIMCU are trained to care for patients requiring chronic mechanical ventilation via tracheostomy as well as to administer, monitor, and recover patients requiring conscious sedation for bedside procedures. The MIMCU is a proud recipient of the AACN Silver Beacon Award. CCRN and/or PCCN certification is encouraged and financially rewarded.
