JOB SUMMARY:

Our state-of-the-art OR suites are home to many progressive and innovative surgical teams that are energized by a variety of challenging and dynamic cases. Penn State Health Milton S Hershey Medical Center is central Pennsylvania’s only academic medical center, and Level I Trauma Center for both adult and pediatric patients, making it an amazing place to grow and maintain a rich, lifelong nursing career.

The operating room suites consist of 35 operating rooms and 4 procedure rooms, where approximately 30,000 surgeries are performed annually, including but not limited to general, vascular, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic, orthopedic, ENT, transplantation, gynecology, urology, plastic and reconstructive, and pediatric surgeries of all kinds.

The registered nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the plan for the perioperative patient. Another vital function of the RN is to serve as a patient advocate during times of vulnerability by utilizing required critical thinking skills, and practical experience regarding the care of the OR patient.

Any requirements for monthly on-call or weekend rotations will be discussed during the interview process

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Registered Nurse with a license to practice professional nursing in the state of Pennsylvania required OR Registered Nurse from another state with a Temporary PA Practice Permit required.

6 months RN Registered Nurse experience is required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

1-2 years of previous Operating Room RN experience

BSN Bachelor of Science in Nursing

CNOR Certified Perioperative Nurse

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently.

Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally.

Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.

Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.

Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
