JOB SUMMARY:
The RN in the HVICCU is highly knowledgeable, adaptable, and a strong critical thinker. Teamwork and peer relationships are at the heart of our success. The HVICCU Intensivist Team relies heavily on the input of direct staff in planning patient care. Our strong and visible leadership team consists of four clinical head nurses, a nurse educator, a clinical nurse specialist, and a nurse manager who make physical presence a daily priority to assist staff with any and all aspects of patient care.
The Heart & Vascular Institute Critical Care Unit (HVICCU) at Hershey Medical Center is a 30 bed, acuity adaptable, mixed medical/surgical critical care unit. HVICCU serves a variety of patient populations including, but not limited to: Open Heart Surgery, Mechanical Circulatory Support (ECMO, LVAD, IABP, and Total Artificial Heart), CRRT, Cardiac Transplantation, Vascular Surgery, Acute MI, Cardiogenic Shock, and complex Heart Failure with multi-organ system failure.
We have a comprehensive multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, dieticians, pastoral care and more. Our goal is to provide exceptional patient care in a family centered atmosphere to the most critically ill patients. We pride ourselves in being a quaternary care center that offers new and emerging mechanical circulatory support therapies.
CRITICAL CARE FELLOWSHIP OPPORTUNITY:
Nurses applying for this position will be eligible for enrollment in a 12 month fellowship program following the orientation period. Inclusion in the fellowship will be based on an assessment of the educational and developmental needs of the individual registered nurse. This exciting opportunity will allow nurses to gain knowledge to be proficient and confident delivering quality care for high acuity patients. The fellowship includes didactic learning, classroom lectures and an educational pathway directed toward certification preparation. In addition to this opportunity every nurse will be paired with a preceptor to help aid the learning process with critical care education and clinical experts throughout their clinical orientation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Registered Nurse with a license to practice professional nursing in the state of Pennsylvania or a Registered Nurse from another state with a Temporary PA Practice Permit
6 months of experience working as a RN
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Intermediate or Intensive Care experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to sit occasionally; stand constantly; walk frequently.
Able to lift/carry 0-10 lbs frequently; 11-50 lbs occasionally.
Able to push/pull 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-75 lbs occasionally.
Able to climb occasionally; reach constantly.
Able to use hand for simple/firm grasping.
