SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

This position will design, develop and coordinate Quality Improvement (QI) and Performance Improvement (PI) initiatives in support of superior healthcare quality, safety, and operational outcomes at Penn State Health. Will manage projects and multidisciplinary teams at the unit level, providing consultation and support for improvement initiatives in order to accomplish measurable quality outcomes. This position will employ a performance improvement methodology, tools and techniques in a clinical environment in order to achieve institutional goals. Interpreting and presenting quality and safety data, with processing and analysis, is an important part of this work. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

Bachelors Degree in Health Care, Engineering, Nursing, Performance Improvement or equivalent field required 2 years of experience in leading and/or participating in quality improvement initiatives, including project management experience. Must have experience providing formal and informal training to project teams on quality improvement tools. Green Belt Certification/training or equivalent required Project Management certification/training or CPHQ certification or equivalent required Root Cause Analysis certification/training or equivalent required 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

Ability to work autonomously in a complex/ambiguous environment 

Ability to facilitate small groups with many different stakeholders Strong strategic thinking, negotiating, facilitating and leadership skills 

Excellent written and oral communication, interpersonal and presentation skills with all levels of staff, including physicians and administrative staff 

Strong understanding of institutional quality programs and strategies 

Comprehensive understanding of clinical workflow and healthcare based information technology 

Strong interpersonal, collaborative, analytical and organizational skills 

Ability to coordinate projects at the unit level and utilize project management 

Experience and knowledge of project management tools and techniques 

Understanding of regulatory, accrediting and external reporting requirements as applied to hospitals 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

Masters Degree preferred 

Previous healthcare and/or clinical experience preferred

Lean or Six Sigma Black Belt certification/training or Advanced IHI Model for Improvement preferred
