SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The PA is a clinician who demonstrates clinical expertise and leadership skills in the area of Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation. The PA uses clinical and academic skills in the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of both inpatient and outpatient pediatric patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).
The PA is a member of an interdisciplinary stem cell transplant team that requires effective communication and collaboration with critical team members at Penn State, in addition to collaborating institutions and agencies. Requires close working program-related development with the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Medical Director and the Pediatric HSCT Nurse Coordinator. The role requires complex critical thinking, an understanding of research principles and practices and leadership that improves the quality of care for children who undergo HSCT.
In collaboration with the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant Medical Director, the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant PA manages therapeutic regimens for acute and chronic problems associated with both autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation. The PA provides anticipatory guidance, medical management, patient and family education, and psychological and emotional support. The PA has full prescriptive authority which includes schedule II through V controlled substances. This position is both inpatient and outpatient patient care Monday through Friday.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of Pennsylvania required.
- National Certification in Pennsylvania or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in Pennsylvania required.
- Relevant experience preferred.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience with Pediatric Stem cell transplant preferred.
