SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The complex care program is responsible for the overall medical management of children with medical complexity: patients who have some type of medical technology (i.e. tracheostomy, gastrostomy tube), are followed by multiple subspecialists and require frequent emergency room visits and hospitalizations. The Physician Assistant will be responsible for inpatient consults when patients of complex care are admitted to the hospital to provide continuity of care, outpatient hospital follow-up visits, acute sick visits, as well as answering phone calls and messages from families and other agencies involved in the child’s care. The Physician Assistant will also assess complex care program referrals to determine eligibility and schedule where appropriate. The complex care team as a whole is designed to provide a medical home for these fragile children and attempt to decrease emergency room visits as well as the length of stay when hospitalized.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
- Graduate of an AMA approved Physician Assistant Program or baccalaureate or higher degree program that meets licensure requirements in the State of employment
- National Certification in State of employment or in another State with reciprocity and licensure to practice in the State of employment
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
