SUMMARY OF POSITION:

The Nursing Professional Development Generalist supports the quality of care provided to patients by Department of Nursing staff through optimal orientation programs, ongoing evaluation of competence, and support of lifelong learning. The Nursing Professional Development Specialist promotes relevant professional development opportunities and mentorship for members of the department of nursing at all levels to assist with the achievement of personal and professional goals.

Our Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is a high paced unit with 91 staff members. The unit is currently enhancing our team to support growth. The PICU currently cares for patients with diagnoses from over 17 different service lines, from newborn to young adult. Our nurses are required to have PALS certification, and are now evolving to require ACLS certification as well due to their care of young adults who have had congenital heart surgery and are still followed by a pediatric congenital heart surgeon. Our incredible nurses are also are trauma certified, care for ECMO patients, CRRT, perform targeted temperature management, care for pediatric cardiothoracic surgery and perform nurse-controlled sedation.

As the only Children’s Hospital between Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, our team is committed to staying on the cutting edge on new developments in the world of pediatric medicine. These advances require an educator to create content and implement change while also supporting staff in orientation and professional development.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing
  • At least three (3) years’ experience as registered nurse
  • Must obtain Master’s degree in nursing or related field within five (5) years of hire
  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
