This position, the Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist / Clinical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Technologist, under minimal supervision, is responsible for independently performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues that includes standardized microscopic, chemical, and/or bacteriological testing.  All testing, Lead the Medical Laboratory Scientist / Clinical Laboratory Scientist / Medical Technologist, is performed in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures, FDA, CAP, OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission regulations and guidelines. Test results are used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.





Baccalaureate degree in medical laboratory science, or related science


MT (ASCP) - Medical Technologist or MLS (ASCP) - Medical Laboratory Scientist, American Society of Clinical Pathology, Health and Human Services Certification. CM required if certified after 2004.


Minimum of 10 years of experience in Hematology and Coagulation disciplines.


Minimum of 5 years of experience in Hematology/ Coagulation lab which performs significant testing for oncology practice(s). 




Extensive knowledge of the principles, methods, materials, equipment, and techniques of clinical laboratory science, in Hematology and Coagulation.


Working knowledge of recent laboratory developments, current literature, and sources of information in medical technology appropriate to the field of specialization.


Previous supervisory or leadership experience


Ability to perform assigned tasks according to procedures and to make accurate observations and records of test result.


Skilled in the use of medical laboratory equipment in the performance of required tests and examinations.


Ability to work with pathologist in keeping current with latest testing developments


Ability to communicate effectively with clinicians and other department staff concerning abnormal findings




Specialist Certification: Specialist in Hematology, SH (ASCP). CM required if certified after 2004.

Experience working with middleware or LIS system specialists


Experience with College of American Pathologist (CAP) regulations
