SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Penn State Health’s GROW career pathway is a dedicated partnership with HACC, Central PA’s Community College, that offers 100% tuition coverage for the last one to two semesters of the program. Students who are offered and accepted into the GROW program participate with no upfront cost. After earning your certification or degree, you are guaranteed a full-time position at Penn State Health. Students are asked to maintain a full-time position for a minimum of one year following completion of the program. Failure to remain at Penn State Health for the one-year commitment will result in you having to pay back the amount the health system paid for your tuition.

The Medical Assistant will function as a member of the healthcare team. The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for providing routine administrative as well as clinical tasks under the supervision of a provider within their scope as outlined by policies and procedures to meet patient and provider needs.


* The Medical Assistant program will begin at HACC - Harrisburg campus on August 19, 2024.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • High School diploma or equivalent required 
  • Must meet current eligibility to sit for the exam with attainment of certification or registration through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistants within 90-days of employment date; or 
  • Current active status as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through one of the Penn State Health approved agencies for Medical Assistant certification required 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must obtain BLS Certification within 6 months of employment date 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program 
  • Previous outpatient experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Compassionate direct patient contact/engagement/outreach
  • Reliable transportation to travel among designated clinic locations
  • Flexibility to collaboratively work with various departments and perform varied tasks
