JOB SUMMARY:

 

Under the general supervision of the Core Laboratory Manager, the Laboratory Point of Care Coordinator oversees and maintains Point of Care Testing (waived testing) performed throughout the hospital. This includes but is not limited to the review of quality control with corrective action, procedure development/review, instrumentation assessment/maintenance, new test implementation, and research of test methodologies. Assists nursing and other designated departments with educational needs, and assists with the laboratory performance improvement and proficiency programs.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor's Degree in the field of medical technology or related science or Associates degree for Medical Laboratory Technician or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution required Alternate: US Military Medical Laboratory Specialist if completed prior to 2004.

Certification as a Medical Technologist, CLS (NCA), MLS/ MT (ASCP), or MLT (ASCP) or equivalent required. If certified after 2004, must maintain active credential status to maintain employment.

2 years of experience as a medical technologist or 5 years of experience as a medical laboratory technician required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

 

Broad knowledge of laboratory testing, policies, and procedures.

Must be proficient with use of computers; applications include experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel a must.

Must have ability to work well under pressure and multitask in a fast paced environment and must demonstrate good organizational skills, be detail oriented, possess a mature, professional, diplomatic personality and excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Must work well independently with minimal supervision.

The ability to work well within a team and promote a harmonious team atmosphere as well as work independently and provide supervision to other team members in this area.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent problem solving skills.

Organized and detailed oriented.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Bachelor's Degree preferred.

Experience with Cerner PathNet and Alere RALS Web3 programs preferred.

Experience with Nova StatStrip meters, Radiometer ABL90 analyzers, iSTAT instruments, TEG preferred.
