JOB SUMMARY:

 

Responsible to assess, develop, plan, implement, and evaluate psychosocial interventions that support the educational, developmental, emotional and therapeutic needs of pediatric patients and their families as they relate to the child¿s illness, injury, hospitalization and treatment. Meet the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients and families by providing education, preparation, procedural support, and play for the Child Life Program. Meets and works closely with Child Life Manager and Staff to observe and further develop Child Life skills and competencies past that of a traditional internship.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Family Studies, Education, or Psychology required.
Completion of Child Life internship (12-15 weeks, at least 480-hours) under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist required.
Child Life certification (CCLS) eligibility required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Capable of relating to diverse age and demographic backgrounds required.
Possess enthusiasm and interest in providing optimum care to pediatric patients. Demonstrate support of the philosophy of family centered care required.
Possess an independent work initiative, organizational ability and a professional demeanor required.
Ability to prioritize/triage patient needs in a timely manner required.
Strong decision-making skills required.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Resourcefulness and creativity in working with a diverse population of pediatric patients, their families, and medical staff preferred.
Computer knowledge (PowerPoint, Cerner/Connected electronic medical record, Word, Excel, Basic Digital Photo) preferred.
Ability to install, maintain and repair electronics, computers equipment, toys and related materials preferred.
Child Life certification (CCLS) preferred.
