An opportunity exists for a Chief Radiation Therapist in Radiation Oncology at Penn State Health – St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, Pennsylvania.  Under the supervision of the Radiation Oncologist and Director of Oncology Services, the Chief Radiation Therapist oversees the radiation therapy staff who are responsible to accurately deliver ionizing radiation to the patients in accordance with the planned treatment prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. The Chief Radiation Therapist will assist as needed in all aspects of Radiation Oncology Department functions, including patient care, treatment delivery, treatment record maintenance, radiation safety, billing, quality assurance, dosimetry, front office organization and operations, patient satisfaction, accreditation initiatives, and patient outcomes.




Graduate of accredited radiography program plus graduate of an accredited Radiation Oncology program (12 months)

American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification in radiation therapy in accordance with state regulations

Five years of experience as a Radiation Therapist


Three years of leadership experience




Bachelor’s degree in an approved program of radiologic technology or health care field


Experience working in a facility which is accredited by the American College of Surgeons and the ACR in Radiation Oncology




Provide daily supervision of the radiation therapists performance and treatment delivery process to ensure timely, safe, efficient, and cost effective patient care


Proactively manage the daily patient flow and processes within the division to optimize daily patient schedules making staffing adjustments, as required


Collaborate with the Medical Director and Chief of Physics to oversee the Quality Assurance Program designed to optimize patient care


Collaborate with the business manager to maintain necessary records regarding patient safety and compliance


Serve as a preceptor and mentor for all new radiation therapist staff and students.  Advise and direct therapists in new of difficult procedures


Provide input on implementation of new technology


Serve as a professional role model and mentor to staff. 


Serve as a change agent to facilitate communication and transition that supports the mission of the division and organization
