SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for the oversight of the Sterile Processing department of Penn State Hershey Medical Center (HMC) for the surgical instrumentation required by the Operating Rooms, Labor and Delivery Unit, the Emergency Department and other hospital units, and all Medical Group practice sites. This position is responsible for long range growth strategies in addition to the daily financial and operational management of the department with an operating budget of approximately $6.5 million. Ensures that the methods for cleaning, assembling, packaging and sterilizing instruments and equipment are performed according to current standards published by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution, Inc. (CBSPD), the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), and the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM). Accountable for ensuring the use of evidence-based practices and complying with local, state, and regulatory agencies. Serves as the primary contact for Infection Control practitioners and internal HMC regulatory staff. This position ensures consistent application of clinical, operational, and Human Resources policies and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors Degree or equivalent years of experience required
5 years of relevant experience required, including 2 years at a supervisory level
CRCST and CHL or CIS/CST required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Excellent analytical and persuasion skills
Personal computer and software knowledge to include Excel, Access, Word and Outlook
Familiarity with JCAHO/CMS regulations for infection control relative to instrument and scope processing
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous experience with Lean Six Sigma preferred
Bachelors Degree preferred
3 to 5 years of experience working in Level 1 Trauma or high volume large healthcare facility preferred
Previous experience working in a unionized environment preferred
